Custom Mouse Pad Resolution & Design Guide

Custom Mouse Pad Resolution & Design Guide

Creating a custom mouse pad starts with the right image. For the best print quality, your design should have enough resolution and match the aspect ratio of the mouse pad or desk mat you order.

Use this guide to find the recommended image resolution, minimum resolution, DPI, dimensions, and aspect ratio for every glide. custom mouse pad and desk mat size.

Custom Mouse Pad Resolution Chart

For the best print quality, use the 300 DPI recommended resolution whenever possible. If your image is smaller, use the minimum resolution as a guideline.

Size Dimensions Recommended Resolution Minimum Resolution Aspect Ratio
MP 35 × 25 cm 4200 × 3000 px 1120 × 800 px 7:5
XS 60 × 30 cm 7200 × 3600 px 1920 × 960 px 2:1
S 70 × 30 cm 8400 × 3600 px 2240 × 960 px 7:3
M 70 × 40 cm 8400 × 4800 px 2240 × 1280 px 7:4
L 80 × 40 cm 9600 × 4800 px 2560 × 1280 px 2:1
XL 90 × 40 cm 10800 × 4800 px 2880 × 1280 px 9:4
XXL 100 × 50 cm 12000 × 6000 px 3200 × 1600 px 2:1
XXXL 120 × 60 cm 14400 × 7200 px 3840 × 1920 px 2:1
Don't have a 300 DPI image? That's okay. Images at or above the minimum resolution can still produce excellent results. We review custom designs before production.

What Resolution Should a Custom Mouse Pad Image Be?

For maximum detail, we recommend designing your custom mouse pad image at approximately 300 DPI at the final print size.

Large desk mats require very large files at 300 DPI, so 300 DPI isn't always necessary. A lower-resolution image can still print clearly on a mouse pad. We recommend approximately 80 DPI at final size as the minimum.

  • 300 DPI: Recommended for maximum detail
  • 80 DPI: Minimum recommended resolution
  • Below 80 DPI: May appear soft or pixelated when printed

When in doubt, upload the highest-resolution version of your image available.

Why Aspect Ratio Matters

Your image's aspect ratio determines how well it fits your custom mouse pad without cropping.

For example, a 60 × 30 cm desk mat has a 2:1 aspect ratio. An image that is 4000 × 2000 pixels is also 2:1, so it naturally fits the entire printable area.

If your image has a different aspect ratio than the mouse pad, some of the image may need to be cropped to completely fill the surface.

Design Tip: Keep important faces, text, logos, and other details away from the extreme edges of your design.

Custom Mouse Pad Design Tips

Use the Highest-Resolution Image Available

Upload the original, highest-resolution version of your artwork whenever possible. Avoid screenshots or images that have been repeatedly downloaded, compressed, or resized.

Keep Important Details Away From the Edges

Small variations can occur during printing, cutting, and stitching. Avoid placing important text, logos, faces, or other precise details directly against the edge of your design.

Avoid Designs That Require Perfect Edge Alignment

Designs with frames, borders, stitched-edge graphics, or other elements that must align perfectly with the physical edge of the mouse pad are not recommended.

Instead, allow backgrounds and artwork to continue naturally beyond the important elements of your design.

Use Clear, Legible Text

Make sure text is large enough to remain readable when printed. Very small or extremely thin text may lose detail during printing.

Remember That Screens and Prints Are Different

Colors displayed on a monitor use light, while your mouse pad is physically printed. Some variation between the colors on your screen and the finished product is normal.

Can I Use a Lower-Resolution Image?

Yes. Your image does not have to be exactly 300 DPI.

The minimum resolutions in the chart above provide a practical baseline for custom printing. Images between the minimum and recommended resolutions can still produce a high-quality custom mouse pad.

Images significantly below the minimum resolution may appear blurry or pixelated, particularly when the artwork contains small details or text.

What If My Image Doesn't Fit?

If your image doesn't match the aspect ratio of your selected mouse pad, it may need to be cropped or adjusted.

For the best results, choose artwork with some extra background space around the main subject. This gives the design more flexibility when adapting it to different mouse pad dimensions.
